So today I wanted to show you more of my son’s “big boy” room!
Ever since we took out all of the “baby” things (his changing table/dresser, crib, etc.) he’s been doing great with keeping it clean and neat. My goal in making the switch was not only because we needed the baby things for the new nursery, but also to let him feel more grown up. Now that everything has a place, he has started learning responsibilities like helping me put his laundry away, picking up his clothes off the floor, and making his bed. He’s so proud of himself when he can do “big boy” jobs like Mommy and Daddy.
In selecting the decor, I wanted to keep it simple but also pick a few things that I knew he would love. He likes everything that his Dad likes so I knew he would get excited about anything that had to do with hunting and fishing. I hit up all of my favorite stores and found a bed to paint, some new bedding, and a couple of cute things to hang on the walls. I love the way it turned out and I’m even more happy that he loves it….

A Target Red Card is such a great deal because it can be used as a debit or credit card, connected to your regular account so you don’t have an additional bill to keep track of. Plus I just love the fact that I can get free expedited shipping ALL the time and I save 5% on every single purchase. We saved over $500 dollars last year by shopping at Target with a red card. To get one click here! It’s super easy to sign up and get started.
Last but not least, in making over this room from a baby nursery to a “big boy” room, I knew I needed to revamp the closet! Our son is now very interested and involved in what he wears everyday, right down to his pajamas, so his old closet system (if you can even call it that) was no longer appropriate for him. I want to show him how to be and stay organized and give him a space he can take pride in taking care of.
I’m embarrassed to even show you the “before” but here it is…..
UGGGGHHHH CRINGE!!!!!!! So needles to say, it needed a makeover way worse than the room itself!
The first thing I did was purge what we no longer needed and packed the clothes he’d grown out of away in tupperware.
Then, I found this amazing 6 cube organizer shelf at Target and let him help me organize his clothes and toys into drawers…
This shelf was very easy to put together and it has just the right amount of drawers for a toddler. I love that you can use the openings as shelves or put drawers in them. I also found the drawers at Target. They come in several colors and are only $9.99!! I may even tie labels through the handles later on to help him learn to read and identify where things go. (actually the labels would be more for my benefit…lol)
Ahhhh, when I look at this I can almost breathe a sigh of relief. Everything has a place and there no excuses for random toys, clothes, and shoes everywhere!
Well that’s it for today. I hope I’ve inspired you in some way.
I’ll be back soon with some nursery decor ideas.
