OMG today is THE DAY!
If you’ve been following me on Instagram then you know I have been obsessing over decorating the nursery for our baby girl’s arrival in August. Well now that we are exactly one month away from our due date, I am finally ready to show you the full reveal. Also, at the end of this post, I’ve teamed up with 5 other amazingly talented women to give you even more baby nursery inspiration!
First, a little back story on why this nursery means so much to me…
Not only are we having our first girl (if you missed the gender reveal party you can read about it and see tons of photos by clicking here) but also, my pregnancy this time around is completely different than the last.
Some of you may have already read previous posts where I’ve talked about my health issues, particularly during pregnancy, but for those of you who haven’t, I will fill you in…
A little over 4 years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I had HORRIBLE vertigo that kept me homebound for the last 4.5 months of the pregnancy. I had an inner ear condition called a Perilymphatic Fistula (PLF for short) that was leaking spinal fluid into my inner ear and required surgery to fix when my son was just 10 weeks old. It was by far the hardest time of my life. Not only were the physical symptoms of dizziness and nausea hard to bare, but the emotional stress of not being able to participate in life that was required of me during that time was devastating. I had to rely heavily on my friends and husband to do the things I had looked forward to doing for so long, in anticipation of becoming a mom i.e. nursery decorating, shopping for baby clothes and gear, nesting, etc. Not to mention, the vertigo symptoms got so bad, I had to go on medical leave from work, (I was a PreK teacher at the time) disappointing everyone ….parents, my students, co-workers, myself. IT WAS AWFUL!!!!
At that time, I honestly didn’t think my body would ever be able to endure another pregnancy again so I really thought that preparing a baby nursery and all of the exciting things that go along with having a baby were one and done for me. The fact that I am able to share this post with you today, overwhelms me to the point of happy tears, to say the least! So if I seem a little nutty over wallpaper, paint, lamps, and bedding, you’re probably right, I am. The little things in life I took for granite before, are now the big things I am so thankful to be able to do and I want to celebrate them as much as I can!
Fast forward to 2.5 years after having our son, we decided that I was feeling strong enough to try and have another baby. We knew it was risky but I was doing so much better and we REALLY wanted to give our son a sibling. Well plans don’t always work out like we want them to. At 9 weeks we found out that I had what’s called a “blighted ovum”. Long story short, we miscarried and had to start all over. This was a devastating experience to say the least but now, God willing, this baby girl will be our “rainbow baby”. I am so thankful for this journey God has led me on, the good the bad and the ugly. I feel so blessed to be where I am today, despite all that I’ve been through. So many of my friends and people I see on Instagram and blogs struggle with fertility and would probably give anything to trade places with me, even on my worst day. Regardless of my circumstances from day to day, I am very thankful for all of my blessings.
Ok enough of that. Now for the fun part!!!! Come along with me and take the tour of my daughter’s new, super girly, pink nursery. I love every square inch of it and hope you will too…
