Set a beautiful Thanksgiving table this year to wow your guests and bring everyone together! Read more for easy and creative Fall tablescape inspiration!
Thanksgiving table decorations can seem overwhelming, especially if you are in charge of cooking the meal too! However, I have some Fall decor inspiration for you today that will hopefully steer you in the right direction and motivate you to decorate!
Most of you probably already know, I thoroughly enjoy decorating for Fall and these are some of my favorite Fall decor posts to date: Home Tour,Cinderella Pumpkins, Fall Blog Tour, Patio, Window Box For Your Door, DIY Fall Vase.
I hope this post finds you in the midst of some lovely Fall weather! We are getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving and it’s time to start thinking about how you are going to set the table for that delicious meal!
HOW TO PLAN YOUR THANKSGIVING TABLE SETTING
- Try to include natural elements such as cotton, wheat, eucalyptus, fruit, etc. to give your tablescape a “farm to table” feel.
- Create your color scheme and theme to compliment your table linens (napkins, placemats, runner, etc.)
- Incorporate color. I tend to gravitate toward more neutral home decor but during the Fall, color is most appropriate!
To begin, I ALWAYS start with a centerpiece first and then build out from there. I like to use real apples in my decor for several reasons.
REASONS TO USE FRUIT AS DECOR
- Inexpensive
- Adds a pop of color
- Gives a “farm to table” vibe for Thanksgiving
- Reusable after Thanksgiving is over!
HOW TO CREATE A THANKSGIVING TABLE SETTING
- First, start with the centerpiece. This can be a floral arrangement or pieces of large decor such as candle sticks, Native American or Pilgrim figurines, turkeys, pumpkins, etc. I chose to create a floral arrangement using eucalyptus and apples with the same vase and shish kabob skewers from my summer patio. If you missed that post you can read about it here.
- Next, build out from the centerpiece using a runner or tablecloth and place your centerpiece on top of the linens, in the middle. I used this table runner I found at World Market and some cotton garland from Hobby Lobby.
- Then, build your place settings. Each place setting should have a minimum of 1 large dinner plate but may also include additional layers such as a charger, napkin, place card, cheeseboard, etc.
- Last, place your silverware and glassware in the proper places according to the food you will be serving. Here is a great reference guide for silverware placement. This will vary based on your menu.
- Additionally, to add an extra special element of design, place a small piece of foliage on each place setting such as a cotton stem, small piece of eucalyptus, single flower or stalk of wheat, etc.
And there you have it! My Thanksgiving table is complete!

You have definitely captured the “farm to table” with your apple centerpiece and I think it sets a wonderful tone to your t’scape. And you’ve upped the look with the pretty stemware and flatware which adds a touch of elegance. Those individual cheeseboards are a fantastic idea and you’ve created a unique place setting with them. Happy Fall!
